The Abia State Police Command on Monday, July 31, paraded crime suspects arrested in various parts of the state.
Briefing newsmen at the Police Headquarters in Umuahia, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Adelye Oyebade, disclosed details of the arrests. Read below.
1. ARREST OF MURDER SUSPECTS/CULTISTS:
On 23/07/2017 at about 0010hrs, information received that there was a corpse later identified simply as Prince ‘m’ of Ngwa and works in a bakery at Garki Catlle Market Lokpanta reasonably suspected to have been stabbed to death by his fellow cult members. Sequel to the information, the Divisional Crime Officer Isuochi raced to the scene with a team of detectives, removed the corpse to the mortuary and commenced investigation into the incident. The trio of Samuel Chukwuemeka, Abdulazeez Mukaila and Obisike Ekezie all males and members of ‘Red Barger’ confraternity were arrested. The suspects have confessed to the crime, search was conducted in their houses during which the following items were recovered: three red caps, four bangles, two daggers, one Samsung TV with its remote control, one Sony Speaker, one DSTV Decoder and a pair of canvas. The dagger used in the act has been identified in the two recovered. Effort is intensified toward the arrest of other fleeing members of the cult group.
2. ARREST OF MOTORCYCLE SNATCHERS/RECOVERY OF ARM & CARTRIDGES:
On 27/07/2017 at about 1100hrs, responding to a distress call on the presence of strange faces in Nkwoudara Ovungwu Isiala Ngwa South LGA, patrol team attached to Omoba Division in raced to the scene and with the collaborative efforts of the Vigilante men in the Community, arrested the following four suspects: Chisom Chimezie 19yrs, Ogbonna Onyeka 22yrs, Kingsley Onyemuru 20yrs and Chinonso Madugba 18yrs all males of Osisioma LGA. Search on them resulted in the recovery of the following items: One locally made pistol with two live cartridges, two jack knives, four ATM cards, Wallet containing sum of N9,090.00 and six ID cards. One Uchenna Ikpendu ‘m’ of Ibeku- Ngwa in Osisioma LGA has identified the suspects as hoodlums that snatched from him on gun-point, his brand new Qlink 150 Motorcycle on 23/07/2017 at about 1730hrs in Umuehim Nvosi Isiala Ngwa South. Discreet investigation is in progress.
3. ARREST OF KIDNAPPERS/RECOVERY OF VEHICLES:
On 27/07/2017 at about 0500hrs, the operatives attached to the Command’s Dragon Squad Aba acting on a tip off, arrested the duo of Samuel Akoma and Kenneth Ananaba both males in an Hotel room at Aba where the hoodlums lodged after collecting ransom to release their hostage. Two vehicles, including that of the released hostage were recovered.
4. ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBER/RECOVERY OF BULLET PROOF JACKET:
On 24/07/2017 at about 2205hrs along Milverton Area Aba, patrol team attached to Central Police Station Aba while on routine patrol, intercepted one Obasi Chibuike ‘m’ putting on Police bullet proof jacket and extorting motorists. On sighting the patrol team, suspect fled the scene but was over-powered by the team. The following items were recovered from him during search: three live cartridges, one bullet proof, one jack knife and an International Passport. The suspect has however, confessed to being a member of four man robbery gang terrorizing Aba and its environs. Effort is put in place toward arresting the other members of his gang as well as recovering their weapons.
5. ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS/RESCUE OF VICTIM:
On 22/07/2017 at about 1305hrs, PMF 55 men on nipping point duty at Owerrinta acting on a tip off, intercepted a 14 seating Mitsubishi L300 bus with reg. no. SB 639 WER painted white and green and arrested the duo of Chinemere Amamba aged 39yrs and Nnamdi Monday both males of Nmelele Isiala Ngwa South. The suspects abducted one Ijeoma Okereke ‘f’ of Imo State University Owerri at about 1200hrs along Emekuku junction, Douglas road Owerri.
6. ARREST OF BURGLARS/RECEIVER AND RECOVERY OF STOLEN ITEMS:
On 27/07/2017 at about 0645hrs, acting on a tip off, detectives attached to Abiriba Division arrested the duo of Ifendi Eke and Nwokocha Ndukwe both males of Abiriba who are behind series of house burglary and stealing in the Community. The suspects confessed to the allegation and led the investigation to the arrest of one Arua Uta Agbai ‘m’ of Abiriba that aids them in disposing their loots. Items so far recovered are bags, Electronics, empty carton of Plasma TV carted away from the house of a Cameroun based business man, Hon. Agbara Ashiegbu. Investigation is in progress toward recovering more stolen items.
7. ARREST OF BURGLAR/RECOVERY OF STOLEN ITEMS:
On 25/07/2017 at about 0015hrs, a distress call was received from one Azubuike Ejikeme ‘m’ of No. 24 Okigwe Road Aba that his residence was under siege by hoodlums. In response to the call, team of patrol men attached to Central Police Station Aba raced to the scene and laid ambush against the hoodlums during which one Frank Egure ‘m’ of no fixed address was arrested at about 0050hrs with Generating sets and motor tyres. On interrogation, the suspect confessed to have burgled an apartment in the complainant’s residence from where, he carted the recovered items. Similarly, another patrol team attached to the same Division had on 20/07/2017 at about 0015hrs arrested the duo of Joseph Patrick and Chinedu Elewechi both males of no fixed address in their area of responsibility following a distress call received from one Amarachi Patrick ‘f’ of No. 142 Jubilee road Aba on 19/07/2017. Items recovered from the suspects are: One Elemax SH 2900 DX Generator, two Century Stabilizers, one Plasma TV, one truck and assorted drinks. Suspects will be charged to Court as soon as investigation is concluded.
8. ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERS:
On 21/07/2017 at about 2105hrs, a distress call was received from one Ezinne Okorie ‘f’ of No. 132 Terryvin road Aba that while she was making call from her Tecno Y2 GSM phone valued #500,000.00, a group of four armed men accosted her, pointed guns at her and robbed her of the phone. In a swift response, patrol team attached to Central Police Station Aba raced to the scene where the duo of Ugochukwu Ugwumba 22yrs and Goodnews Uwem 18yrs both males were arrested with a machete while others fled with their guns. The suspects confessed to the crime and are leading the investigation toward arresting their cohorts cum recovering the phone.
9. ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SYNDICATE:
On 23/07/2017 at about 0200hrs, one Peter Okorie Nwaigwe ‘m’ of No. 3 Afam road Oyigbo Rivers State and driver in-charge of a Commercial bus with reg. no. ETU 66 XA reported at Isiala Ngwa North Division that he and his passengers were robbed at gun point by four armed men at Isiala Ngwa North along Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway while travelling to Arochukwu for a traditional marriage. One of the suspects, Madusbuchi Ekeleme ‘m’ of Ubakala was gripped by one of the passengers while others fled into the bush. The said Maduabuchi Ekeleme was rearrested by the detectives attached to the Division and his confession led the investigation to a hide-out at Ubakala area in Umuahia South LGA where the trio of Bright Iroakazi ‘m’, Chizoba Ede ‘f’ and Adaugo Onuoha ‘f’ were arrested while one identified as Kelvin escaped. Items recovered are one torch light and wraps of drugs suspected to be Cocaine. Effort is intensified to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
10. ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS:
On 24/07/2017 at about 1500hrs, one Samuel Nmecha ‘m’ of Okputong village Uzoakoli reported at Uzoakoli Division that on 23/07/2017 at about 1735hrs four young men armed with machetes and daggers robbed him and his two friends: Kalu Emenike and Joseph Chibuike both males of Uzoakoli and Anambra respectively of their four assorted GSM phones and cash sum of #11,250.00. Two of the suspects identified as Onyekaozuru Emenike and Chibuzo Okoroafor both males have been arrested while investigation is in progress.
11. DEATH OF A KIDNAPPER/RECOVERY OF ARM AND AMMUNITION:
On 27/07/2017 at about 1030hrs, one of the kidnappers reported to have escaped with bullet wounds on 19/07/2017 during a rescue operation of one Onyemaechi Mbamaonyeukwu Ijeoma ‘m’ who was held hostage by the deceased and his gang has been found dead. The deceased suspect identified as Charles Ndubuisi Nwaichi ‘m’ of Eziudo, Ezinihitte Mbaise in Imo State was on information, traced to Abia State Teaching Hospital Aba where he was taken to by his brother, one Obioma Monday Nwaichi for treatment but he eventually gave up the ghost on 22/07/2017. Prior to this development, one Military-type AK 47 rifle with bayonet, Double magazine and ten rounds of live ammunition were recovered on 24/07/2017 during further combing of a bush in search of the wounded suspects. Investigation extended to the Hospital has confirmed the information and his photograph taken while effort is in progress to take over the corpse.
12. RESCUE OF COLLAPSED BUILDING VICTIMS:
On 23/07/2017 at about 2155hrs, one Orim Michael ‘m’ of Onyemaechi Street in Ohuru-Isimiri, Obingwa LGA reported at Ohuru-Isimiri Division that an uncompleted three storey building located at Geometric Road Umuohia Village in Obingwa LGA collapsed and trapped down some people. In a swift response, Officers and men of the Division raced to the scene and were able to recue six (6) men who were trapped in the rubbles alive and unhurt. The victims are Godwin Elenwa ‘m’, Amarachi Chidiebere ‘f’, Prince Chidiebere ‘m’, Grace Chidiebere ‘f’ and Orim Michael ‘m’. Investigation is in progress to unravel the circumstances behind the collapse.
13. DEATH OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS AND RECOVERY OF ARMS/CARTRIDGES:
On 30/07/2017 at about 0600hrs, distress call was received from Isiama Afara-Ukwu Umuahia that two armed robbers were arrested in the village; based on the call, patrol team attached to World Bank Division Umuahia swiftly raced to the scene where the two suspects were found unconscious at the scene with two locally made short guns and seven (7) live cartridges recovered from them. Both suspects were rushed to the Hospital where one was confirmed dead and the other who gave his name as Chukwuoma Nweze ‘m’ made a dying declaration confessing to the crime later gave up the ghost. However, one Ada Kalu ‘f’ that harboured the hoodlums has been arrested. Corpses of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue while effort is in progress to track down their mentioned accomplices.
14. ARREST OF A FLEEING ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT:
On 20/06/2017, there was an armed robbery incident at Akwette in which a motorcyclist was shot by one of his Fulani passengers as he resisted attempt to snatch the motorcycle from him. The next day, one of the suspects was arrested following the combined efforts of the Police and Vigilante group in the area and one locally made gun recovered. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and that the gun belonged to his cohort, one Suleiman that used same to shoot the victim. Consequent on a lead from the 1st suspect, Adamu Abubakar, the said Suleiman Muhammed ‘m’ of Zamfara State was arrested on 14/07/2017 at DE-DORIS Hotel, Omuma Igurita in Rivers State by operatives attached to Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Obehie. The suspect has also confessed to the crime and both will be arraigned in Court soonest.
15. ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT/RECOVERY OF STOLEN ITEMS:
On 29/07/2017 at about 1300hrs, acting on information, patrol team attached to Mike Okiro Division in collaboration with the youths of Ubani Community, Umuahia arrested one Oluchukwu Onuoha ‘m’ of same Community for robbing the duo of Mercy Akobundu ‘f’ and Ndu Azu ‘m’ both of Ubani Community. One dagger used in the robbery, wrap of weeds suspected to be Cannabis and sum of #3,120.00 robbed from Mercy Akobundu were recovered. Effort is intensified to arrest the fleeing accomplice.
16. RECOVERY OF STOLEN VEHICLE:
On 29/7/2017 at about 0925hrs, operatives attached to Osisioma Division arrested one Chijioke Ahamefula aged 26yrs male of No. 4 Umuocham by MCC Road Aba with a Mitsubishi Bus with reg. no. XA 912 KGE which was removed from where parked in Okigwe Imo State. Effort is in progress to contact the owner and transfer of suspect to Imo State Command for further investigation.
