The 2015 edition of Oil & Gas Awards organized by Oval Energy and Business Day Newspapers was held at the Eko Hotels and Suits in Victoria Island on Thursday night, with indigenous oil producing companyConoil emerging ‘Best Company in Local Content’.
Continental Oil & Gas, a sister company to Conoil, also won in the ‘Best Company in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)’ category.
According to the criteria used for selection, Conoil Producing won the Best Company in Local Content under the Sole Risk Independent Company category after meeting the required parameters such as Ratio of Nigerian to foreign contractors engaged, Nigerian Human Capacity Development Initiatives, Sponsorship and Partnerships and Number of Nigerians in Management Positions.
The organizers said that Continental Oil & Gas Company won in the CSR category for being the best in terms of donations, scholarships and development of host communities and for its employees’ commitment to CSR work.
The awards which were broadly categorized into joint venture, Sole Risk/Independent, Marginal Field, Downstream Major Marketers, Downstream Independent Marketers and Service Sector rated thenominees according to laid down Oil & Gas industry standards.
George Osahon, Director of Department of Petroleum Resources, industry regulator, gave the keynote address at the event which was largely attended by the cream of the energy, oil & gas industry. Mobil Oil, Total and Oando Plc also won in their respective categories.
Publisher of BusinessDay, Frank Aigbogun, said in his remarks “the award aims to recognize, reward and celebrate excellence, innovation and contributions of individuals, organizations and institutions to the growth and development of the upstream, mid and downstream sub-sectors of the Nigerian oil and gas industry.”
Both Conoil Producing and Continental Oil and Gas are owned by Globacom Chairman, Dr Mike Adenuga Jr. The companies beat three other nominees in the same categories to clinch to the awards.
